Description

[ Name ] Persephone

[ Meaning - Queen of the Underworld ]

[ Language - Greek ]

[ Breed ] 60 % Arabian - 40 % Andravida

[ Arabian - She has the slight build of an Arabian; lithe and small. Her profile shows that famous Arabian indent of the head and her coloring is a rare red; presumably gained from her Arabian ancestors. ]

[ Andravida - Being related to this ancient Greek breed, she has nothing to really show for it. She doesn't have a big build or block-like hooves. The only thing she really contracted from this breed is a battle ready spirit as well as a Greek accent. ]

[ Herd ] Feral Horse

[ Rank ] Herd Member

[ Age ] 11 Years

[ Birthday - May 5th ]

[ Sex/Gender ] Female - Mare

[ Personality ]

[ Soft Spoken - When first introduced to someone, Persephone is very soft spoken. She tends to keep to herself and only speaks when spoken too. Either way, it can also be very hard to understand her due to the fact that her voice is so quiet. She mumbles and mostly all of her sentences end with a shy little giggle. ]

[ Intelligent - She's a very intellectual mare. She often calculates everything and when she opens up to someone, she uses an extensive vocabulary that only a few people have witnessed her do. She likes to think that she's smarter than most horses, but that may just be her family's genetic arrogance talking. ]

[ Unpredictable - Some days she'll be more social while other days she'll isolate herself from making any contact with a fellow herd member. Therefore, she's very unpredictable. ]

[ Fake - Constantly she'll act happy when she's dying inside. She doesn't like to bother others with her issues so she usually bottles them up and ignores that urging pain of breaking down into tears. ]

[ Insidious - ]

[ Charming - ]

[ Distant - ]

[ History ]

Aphrodite, a pure bred white Arabian, was only 8 years old when she got impregnated by a stallion in heat. Although it wasn't in her plans to have a colt, she decided it was her fate; for everything happens for a reason. Becoming overjoyed with the thought of having her own colt, she became more and more excited as the pregnancy entered it's final stages. She felt a kick every now and then, signaling that her child was soon ready to be born. However, all throughout the pregnancy, she was certain that her colt was bound to be pure white just like her mother and father as well as all her other relatives. She was raised in a very arrogant family whom all prided themselves on being the whitest coated horses in the land. To her, bringing a colt into the world that was anything but white...it would be a catastrophe. When her sister gave birth to a beautiful gray foal, their father intended to brutally slaughter her son; and so, he did. Her sister's foal was lead into the forest by their father and never came out.

On May 5th, a rather stormy day; Aphrodite gave birth to a beautiful little colt. It was a girl. Within a matter of seconds, her daughter was walking; prancing, actually. She fell multiple times but Aphrodite, staring in disbelief, saw that her daughter was a pure red, not pure white. She was shocked and at a loss for words. Her heart swelled with pain at the thought of her daughter being killed just because the color of her coat wasn't white.

Her father, mother, and siblings all waited for her in the grass outside; for she was inside a small cave-like structure, hidden by the tall growing weeds. Frightened and still in shock, Aphrodite hushed her daughter as she began to whiney softly. Quickly fleeing in the tall grasses, Aphrodite and her daughter avoided being seen by her arrogant family.

The winds blew harshly as lightning cracked across the sky. She could hear her family neighing in the distance, yelling for their missing daughter and the newly born colt. They galloped for what seemed like hours. Aphrodite's daughter fell multiple times, gaining cuts and bruises to her face and legs. Although the terrain was harsh, it would be even worse if they were to stop and rest. Flicking her head over her shoulder, she could faintly see the silhouettes of her mother and father in the glow of the crashing lightning bolts.

Suddenly, she remembered a herd. In the distance ahead, there was a herd of Feral horses.

Neighing to her daughter, she decided to have one last attempt at saving the red filly's life. As soon as they made it to the herd's camp, her daughter would be safe. Running into what seemed like the eye of the storm, the wind pulled at Aphrodite's mane and continuously blew her daughter over and over. Yet, the two refused to give up. Lightning smacked the ground. Thunder roared like a fierce lion.

She could see a herd of horses in the distance and cried out to them; begging for help. Taking one last step, Aphrodite heaved; starting to feel her heart cease up. She neighed once more, only to fall over with a sudden spasm.

Aphrodite, the valiant mother who went the distance to save her daughter, had died due to heart failure.

The herd came running. The red filly, covered in cuts and bruises, was too young to process anything that had happened. Thunder continued to roar and the little colt looked for someone to comfort her; tears swelling up as she whined for her mother's warmth.

She pressed her head against her mother's, begging for her mother to wipe away her tears and protect her from the scary weather. Not even 24 hours old and her mother was already dead.

As the herd came running, the little colt perked her ears; sniffling with fear and panic. Before her stood a tall white Arabian, his mane glowing in the darkness from the light of the lightning . "What...what have you done...?" he demanded, as if he was asking the defenseless filly. Before him his daughter laid, her eyes closed as bloody cuts covered her once white coat.

Mistaking her grandfather as her father, the small filly made her way to him; tears rolling down her face as all she wanted was someone to hold her and tell her everything would be alright. She pushed her red coated head against his chest, crying. Before she even had a chance, the stallion reared up; yelling in anger. "She's dishonored us with this red abomination!" he yelled, readying himself to pound the crying filly to death.

Before he could lay a hoof on her, the Feral Herd had made it to the scene; blocking the white Arabian's brutal anger from the poor motherless colt. "You have no right to harm this child," a stallion growled; dividing the grandfather from his granddaughter as he stood between them. "If you do not want her, we'll take her. No child should die because their appearance displeases you."

Their was a silence. The storm raged on as the filly cowered from the two stallions.

Finally, the white Arabian spoke. "She'll die within the first week. Look at her- she's bloody and bruised. She'll be of no use to you or your herd."

"That doesn't matter. We'll still take her."

Another silence. The white stallion looked for something to say, but he was at a loss for words. "Fine then. Keep the little devil," he darkly murmured; turning away from the herd and the noble stallion.

"Before you go, does she have a name?"

The Arabian stopped, flicking his tail. "Yes." Pausing, he looked over his shoulder- a dark smile crossing his face. "Persephone. Queen of the Underworld...where she so desperately belongs."

oanksansoa too pretty <33
I love the way you drew her mane and eyes! She looks so graceful ;U;

Just one thing though; an infant/baby horse is called a foal, not a colt |D A colt is the male gender of a foal, just like a filly is the female term.
